18.1大道废，有仁义；
The Law of Heaven and Earth is nulled,
thus mercy and compassion are called in
18.2智慧出，有大伪；
Wisdom appears because wile exists,
18.3六亲不和，有孝慈；国家昏乱，有忠臣。
The family is not in harmony therefore filial piety looks prominent;
the nation is in chaos therefore patriotism is called in.
